Growing my own flowers was an idea that started in a supermarket, three summers ago. Gazing at the flower buckets by the entrance, I felt torn. Flowers make me happy – but if I wanted one mixed bouquet a week on the kitchen table, I’d be shelling out £40 a month.   With the prospect of a long, hot season spent mostly at home, my garden has never looked riper for growing. I started off storytime with a great book, “My Garden” by Kevin Henkes. This is a great book that would work for a lot of different themes — imagination is definitely one to remember for this book — but I did choose to use it for a bit of whimsy in this storytime. My newest book won a Silver Award of Achievement from the Garden Writers Association as well as a Silver Award in the INDIES Book of the Year competition. Clearly there are lots of gardeners who want to enjoy garden-grown food every day of the year. But really, can you think of a better reason to grow a garden?

Most of them just repeat what the last one said, much of which is not great advice in my opinion (and yet somehow they become the popular ones – funny how that is). The book goes through counting 1 to 12 and shows items from the garden in each example.
